The Souls of Mosul

July 2017, Mosul. As the liberation of Mosul keeps being announced there's still heavy blasts and intense firefights in some neighborhoods of Old Town. Each hour more refugees escape the battlefield. Many of them are kids, undernourished, sick, injured, traumatized.

The doctors and nurses of the forward field lazarets (many of them are wonderful volunteers) do their very best to give them a first treatment. Lovingly they check biodata, give them vaccination, sooth them.

These moments take a toll on everyone. Not only is it devastating to see these little souls suffer... it is the prospect of their future that eventually breaks your heart.
